In this post we pick up in chapter 60. The prophet is again hammering home the message that God will restore the nation of Israel to a place of blessing before Him and before the nations. In fact, the nations will shower the people of Israel with wealth, and any nation that chooses not to serve Israel will not survive.
Is. 60:11-12 Therefore thy gates shall be open continually; they shall not be shut day nor night; that men may bring unto thee the forces of the Gentiles, and that their kings may be brought. For the nation and kingdom that will not serve thee shall perish; yea, those nations shall be utterly wasted.
The Lord is clear that once Israel is restored in fellowship with Him, they will never again experience suffering at the hands of other nations. In fact, God declares that He will “make thee an eternal excellency”; they will experience the blessings of God forever. I think it is important to note that God declares that His people will possess their land, the plot of ground on planet earth known as Israel, forever.
Is. 60:21 Thy people also shall be all righteous: they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hands, that I may be glorified.
What is the primary reason that they will be redeemed and restored to a position of blessing and honor? To bring glory to God. He had made an unconditional covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Though their descendants had rejected God in rebellion and had required judgment, they would not thwart His purposes. It will be clear as events unfold, that it is God’s almighty hand that accomplished His purpose and declare Him as the One True God.
The prophet continues the message of the restoration of Israel in chapter 62. He declares that they will “be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.” (v3) They will also be called “The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD… Sought out, A city not forsaken.” (v12)
