THY KINGDOM COME, THY WILL BE DONE

How many times have you recited the model prayer that the LORD used to teach the disciples how to pray and really thought about each phrase?  One of the first phrases in that prayer states, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”  It’s an expression of one’s desire for Jesus to come and take His throne as King of kings and Lord of lords on the throne of David in Jerusalem.  When that time comes, Jesus will be the ruling authority over the whole planet according to His will, His law. Satan will be bound and not allowed to exert his influence as the god of this world as he does now.

Revelation 19:11–16 “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war….and his name is called The Word of God….And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

When Jesus is on the throne, war will be a thing of the past.  Democracy will be a thing of the past.  Despotism will be a thing of the past.  Political correctness will be a thing of the past.   Manipulation of the masses will be a thing of the past.  Abortion and murder will not be tolerated.  Fornication and homosexuality will not be tolerated or celebrated.  Scientists will no longer be able to “play god” with the building blocks of life in defiance of the LORD’s created order.  False religions will not be tolerated.  Entertainment will not be allowed to target man’s lust or violence or wicked imaginations of any kind.

The rule of Jesus will be characterized by righteousness, truth and love that will result in true justice without regard to person or position.  He will rule with a rod of iron according to the law of God. The commandments of God will be honored and respected.  The sanctity of marriage between a man and woman will be restored.  Public prayer will be accepted and supported.

In the Messianic kingdom the nations will experience a time of peace and safety such as never before experienced since man chose to sin in Eden.  Israel will be exalted among the nations.  The weapons of war will be destroyed.

Micah 4:1–4 “But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it.”

The LORD will bring about a great change in the animal kingdom, and man and animal will live in harmony with one another.  Longevity of life will return.  Harvests will be bountiful.  Prosperity will abound.

Isaiah 11:6–9 “The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them. And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice’ den. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.”

Personally, I can’t wait.  I am so looking forward to His return and to see the fulfillment of every prophecy recorded in His word.  Even as I am eager for His return, I tremble for those I love and care about who do not truly know Jesus as Lord and Savior.  I am so thankful that the LORD is patient and giving them every chance to turn to Him in faith and repentance.

2 Peter 3:9 “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”

While we await His return, Peter urges those of us who are indwelt by the Spirit to live so as to be ready to face Him without shame.

Romans 8:9 “But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.”

2 Peter 3:14 “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

Dear LORD, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.”
